As we were driving to dinner the other night (Sandy Bottoms Grill on the beach.. ahhhh), we were informed by Will in the back seat that when he eats apples, his tooth bends. Ureka! A loose tooth! As I fought back my squeamish stomach at the thought of touching said bloody tooth at some point, I remembered Alex’s first lost tooth, and how he threw it in the trash because he didn’t know it was a big deal. So to be more on the ball than Jill was (hehe), I told the story of the tooth fairy, and how the tooth will be taken by the tooth fairy, and in return there will be money under his pillow.
Silence.
Tears.
Then…
“I DON’T WANT TO SELL MY TEETH!”
Okkkkk.. as usual Bill was quick on his feet. There will now be a box on his night stand so that the tooth fairy can leave him the tooth instead of taking it away. Crisis diverted.. let the teeth fall out.

Greetings from Paradise!! Well, my wish came true and we did make it to FL in time for the Shrimp Festival - with days to spare. We’ve been here since April 24 and it has been just wonderful. Our house is everything we hoped it would be and more. The kids have adjusted and have already formed some friendships. I am moving a little slower in the friendship department and still have days where I miss my friends so much it brings me to tears. BUT I am meeting some wonderful women down here and I feel hopeful that I’ll have chikkas to hang out with again.
Let’s see.. I’ll update on each of us..
Will:
Every day is a day closer to when Will starts Kindergarten, and I face the day with anticipation and dread. I hope he makes this transition a little better than the preschool years, but I expect tears. The full day of school seems like so much for a kid who has never been away from us for more than a few hours without family. One thing about Will though - I know he’ll be fine. The adjustment might suck, but the kid is just one of those kids who shines no matter where he is. I expect school will be the same. His reading ability is amazing, and the days where we spell out words are now oficially over! He can also hit a baseball that is pitched to him and can run and dribble a basketball at the same time. He just had his first get together with friends and had 3 other kids over to watch Camp Rock on Disney. The movie was a bit of a bust (definitely no HSM or HSM2) but I don’t think he’ll ever forget it. The kids got popcorn, candy and rootbeer, so at the same time I am the coolest mom on the block this week!
Sara:
Imp, spitfire, independent, adorable. That sums up Sara! She is talking a blue streak now and most of it is understandable. She worships Will and overall they are really great with each other. She’s a smart cookie already - she can sing the abc song, and she’s pretty good with numbers for 2. She will group items and count them which is something Will never did. It’s hard to believe she’s only 2 sometimes - her soul is older than that. I have to say that the twos aren’t that terrible with her and that she’s really a lot of fun. We go to a play group together and she is making friends with a little girl named Nelly who is just adorable. One quick story and I’ll move on! We went to the pool last week and it was her first time in a deep pool since she was a baby and I held her. Well we got into the pool and she started FREAKING out.. yelling and squriming so I started to take her back out of the pool which only pissed her off even more. So I looked her in the eyes and told her to use her words. She stared me right back down and said “LET GO OF ME”. LOL!! So I did and off she went in her floatied like an old pro. That’s my girl!
Bill:
Bill has lost a ton of weight and looks and feels great. No real secret to his weight loss - he just stopped eating out every day at work and started eating dinner at 5 pm instead of 7:30. He is learning the ropes fishing in Florida and already has a favorite spot to go. Our next door neighbor works from home as well, so they’ve already hatched up a few plans to get away for a while. His mom’s estate has him incredibly busy - you would not believe the amount of work involved unless you’ve done it yourself already. With Gloria’s death being so sudden it’s just that much harder. It’s a thankless job, that’s for sure and he deserves a lot of credit.
Me:
I’ve taken on more responsibility with my contract and really enjoy it, but it is also cramping my beach lifestyle :). I am in book worm mode at the moment and have really enjoyed sitting on the screened in porch (lanai in floridaspeak) at night and reading. I just finished A Thousand Splendid Suns and it was one of the most amazing books I’ve read. Really moving, disturbing, beautiful and thought provoking. Other than that, like I said, just trying to make friends.
Pictures to follow!
